In the latest episode of the Aesthetics Business Cast, hosts Eddie Hooker and Vicky Eldridge sit down with Brent Nixon, Chief Operating Officer of Hydrinity Accelerated Skin Science, the fastest growing professional skincare brand in the US. With over 30 years of experience scaling high growth healthcare, aesthetics and technology businesses, Brent's CV reads like a who's who of medical aesthetics, including Laserscope, GE Healthcare, Boston Scientific, CoolSculpting and Restoration Robotics.
Now, with Hydrinity expanding into the UK and Ireland through a partnership with Unique Skin, Brent shares why this market matters, what makes Hydrinity different, and what UK clinics can learn from the US.
Hydrinity's origin story sets it apart from the crowded skincare space. The brand was born out of regenerative medicine and wound care science, originally developing advanced wound care products and drug delivery systems for oncology and hematology patients. That heritage informs everything Hydrinity does today.
At the heart of the brand is its proprietary dual weight, medical pharmaceutical injectable grade hyaluronic acid. The low molecular-weight HA, at just 100,000 Daltons, is around 15 to 20 times smaller than any other HA molecule in skincare, allowing it to penetrate deep into the dermis and act as a transdermal delivery mechanism for other active ingredients. The result? Visible changes in as little as two weeks.
Brent describes the UK as one of the most progressive and dominant aesthetic markets in Europe, home to world renowned dermatologists, plastic surgeons and cosmetic doctors. He's quick to emphasise that having the right distribution partner is critical. As he puts it, a good distributor is "worth its weight in gold."
Hydrinity launched in the UK and Ireland in 2025 in partnership with Unique Skin, a company with over a decade of experience in dermatology and aesthetic distribution. With the UK and Ireland skincare market expected to approach $5 billion by the end of 2025, the timing is no accident.
One of the most thought provoking parts of the conversation centred on aftercare. Eddie noted that from an insurance perspective, downtime and post-procedure complications are a common source of complaints. Brent argues that the industry has been slow to move on from heavy occlusive products like silicone based agents, which were once the gold standard but trap heat, block oxygen and fail to hydrate the wound.
Hydrinity's approach is different. Their Hyacinth Active Mist, a hypochlorous based spray designed specifically for dermatological applications, kills bacteria, viruses and fungus, while their HA technology accelerates all four phases of wound healing, from hemostasis through to maturation. Less redness, less downtime, faster healing, and happier patients who come back for more.
Brent also touched on Hydrinity's "skinimalism" philosophy. Rather than overwhelming patients with 8, 9 or 10 step regimens, the brand has deliberately built a streamlined portfolio (the brand launched with just three products in 2022 and has only added one or two each year). That simplicity boosts compliance, broadens appeal (particularly with the growing male market) and slots easily into existing clinic protocols.
The newest addition, Retisone, is described by Brent as the most significant advancement in retinol science in 10 years, delivering results with notably less redness and dryness than traditional retinols.
Vicky raised something many practitioners struggle with: the discomfort of "selling" skincare after a treatment. Brent's response was reassuring. Doctors aren't sellers, they're trying to help patients achieve the best outcome. The shift, he says, is in positioning. When post procedure products are framed as part of the procedure itself, rather than an upsell, the conversation changes entirely. As he points out, around 60 to 70% of the outcome comes down to what the patient does after the treatment.
Brent's reflections on the UK echo a wider theme in modern aesthetics: the move towards holistic, regenerative skin health rather than isolated procedures. With clinically validated products, multicentre studies and a science led approach, Hydrinity is one to watch as it builds its UK presence.
