HAMILTON FRASER INSURANCE SAY ‘YES’ TO DENTAL HYGIENISTS AND DENTAL THERAPISTS BUT ‘NO’ TO BEAUTICIANS
Hamilton Fraser Insurance, leading supplier of medical indemnity cover for the aesthetic medicine market, can now provide insurance for dental hygienists and dental therapists undertaking botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Providing certain criteria is met by applicants, including evidence of GDC membership and successful completion of either the 2 year Diploma in Dental Hygiene & Therapy or 3 year BSc in Oral Health Science, it will be possible to arrange cover.
Applicants will only be considered by Hamilton Fraser under a ‘practice’ policy where a fully qualified dentist is already insured for the treatments and the work performed by the hygienist or therapist is under the guidance of the dentist.

“At Hamilton Fraser we embrace the changing aesthetic medicine landscape and acceptance of the hygienists and therapists. When considering whether or not to look at this type of practitioner we felt that the high standard of qualifications and the newly obtained GDC membership status must play a big part in our decision making. As long as the qualifications have been obtained and there is a resident dentist at the practice who can be called upon for assistance, then we are happy to provide insurance.”
However, dental nurses and beauty therapists will still not be accepted by Hamilton Fraser.

“Despite their training qualifications we are still apprehensive to insure beauty therapists and similarly trained individuals. While there is nothing to stop beauticians practicing fillers and botox, from an insurance standpoint there are still concerns over the lack of medical training and handling of problems and injuries including trauma.”
